$51M Mega Millions lottery ticket sold in California

LOS ANGELES - One ticket with all six numbers in Tuesday's multi-state Mega Millions draw was sold in California, California Lottery officials announced.

The ticket's owner must decide whether to accept the estimated cash value of $32.3 million or receive 26 annual payments of approximately $1.96 million each before taxes.

Five tickets -- one each sold in California, Massachusetts, Maryland, South Carolina and Washington -- had five numbers, but didn't have the Mega number.

The one sold in California is worth $220,311, while the other four are each worth $250,000, California Lottery officials announced. California law requires most major payoffs of lottery games to be paid on a pari-mutuel basis.

The numbers drawn tonight were 1, 16, 29, 36, 50 and the Mega number was 16. The jackpot was $51 million.

The drawing was the fifth since the last time a ticket with all six numbers was sold.

The odds of matching all five numbers and the Mega number is 1 in 175,711,536, according to the Mega Millions Web site.

The jackpot for Friday's draw will be $12 million.

The Mega Millions game is played in 41 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
