Can Jeff Probst Survive Daytime?

Add Jeff Probst to the growing list of tube personalities looking to fill the void left by the exit of Oprah Winfrey and the expected retirement of Regis Philbin.

The Survivor host has cinched a deal with CBS Television Distribution to jump into the shark-infested waters of daytime television where he'll see if he can outwit, outlast and outplay all rivals headlining his own talk show, slated to premiere in fall 2012.

But will he leave the reality competition that made him famous?

According to Probst himself, the answer is no.

"I'm fascinated with human nature and thrilled that this show will allow me the opportunity to connect with real people and explore their stories on a personal level," said the long-serving adventure guide. "As I continue with Survivor, I am excited to extend my relationship with CBS with this new adventure in the world of daytime."

In March, Probst signed a new deal to return for Survivor's 23rd and 24th seasons, airing this fall and next spring on CBS.

Probst's new one-hour chatfest will cover topics ranging from newsmakers of the day to families and individuals facing challenges?something the torch snuffer surely knows all too well after emceeing all 22 editions of Survivor since its 2000 debut.

Probst isn't entirely new to the talk-show scene either, by the way, having also served as a regular guest host for Philbin over the years on Live With Regis and Kelly as well as filling in for Larry King on CNN's Larry King Live.
