Actor Peter Falk, who is most known for his television role series ?Columbo? has died at 83.
Falk?s family released a statement on the actor?s death today, saying the actor, ?died peacefully at his Beverly Hills home in the evening of June 23, 2011.?
Peter Falk is survived by his wife of 34 years, Shera, and two daughters from a previous marriage.
Falk suffered from Alzheimer?s disease and advanced dementia that seemed to get worse after his dental surgeries in 2007.� In 2009, his wife, Shera, and daughter, Catherine, had a legal battle over who should be in charge of the actor?s affairs.� A judge ruled in Falk?s wife Shera?s favor.
Falk was best known for his role as Lieutenant Columbo in the television show, that won him four Emmy Awards.

Falk started his career in theater and returned to the stage later in his career.� Falk won a Tony award for ?The Prisoner of Second Avenue? in 1972.
The actor also was successful on the big screen and was nominated for Academy Award Oscars for his role in?Murder, Inc.? and ?Pocketful of Miracles? in the 1960s.
