Lindsay Lohan is expected to serve about 35 days of home detention for an alleged theft.

LOS ANGELES - Lindsay Lohan got a visit from probation officials this week when her ankle monitoring device went off just five days into her court-ordered house arrest.

"Lindsay's electronic monitoring system went off on Monday. When a representative from the monitoring company went to her home, the representative found Lindsay there," her lawyer, Shawn Holley, said in a statement Thursday.

"The equipment was replaced the following day," Holley said.

"It was just a malfunction. She did not leave the house," her mom Dina Lohan told the Daily News.

"She's not going to leave the house, trust me. She's excited to finish this up and get back to her community service and her career."

She said Lindsay's sister, Ali, 17, is staying with the "Mean Girls" star in her rented Venice Beach townhouse after signing a new modeling contract.

"They're doing a lot of cooking together. Ali loves to bake," Dina said. "And Lindsay is reading scripts and painting."

Lohan, 24, is expected to serve about 35 days of home detention for taking a diamond necklace from a nearby store without paying for it.

She was sentenced to four months in jail for the misdemeanor theft but qualified for house arrest because she's a nonviolent offender in a county with severely overcrowded jails, officials said.

Her posh $2.25 million crib is a far cry from the dreary cell where she spent two weeks last summer for a probation violation in her DUI case.

The three-level house has four bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, heated concrete floors and a landscaped roof deck with wrap-around views of the ocean and mountains.

Dina Lohan said Lindsay will jump right back into the 360 hours she must serve at a downtown shelter for homeless women once the anklet is removed. She'll work first with battered women and the shelter's theater workshop and later on with kids.

"The women are so nice to her. They see Lindsay as a normal middle class American girl who followed her dream and became an actress," Dina told the News. "We just want to put this all behind us."
